John R. Barber
Partner, Barber & Company LLP
Mr. Barber is the Managing Partner of Barber & Company LLP. He has over 20 years of experience advising businesses and executives on international tax matters. He works extensively in the areas of cost sharing, export tax incentives, transfer pricing and global tax minimization through international structuring. He works with public and privately held businesses in diverse and complex industries, including contract manufacturing, software, health care and financial services.
Prior to founding Barber & Company, Mr. Barber spent 18 years with KPMG LLP, where he was an international tax partner. During his career at KPMG, Mr. Barber worked in several offices, including a two-year assignment in the firm’s U.S. tax practice in Tokyo, Japan.
Mr. Barber is a frequent speaker on international tax topics at international tax conferences. He earned his Bachelor of Science in accounting at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Master’s in taxation at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Barber is a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs, the California Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He is licensed in California and Virginia.
Shirley K. Lee
Partner, Barber & Company LLP
Ms. Lee is a Partner with Barber & Company LLP. She has over 10 years of experience advising businesses and executives on international tax matters. She has worked extensively in federal tax strategies associated with global business challenges, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint venture planning, licensing agreements, transfer pricing, and intellectual property transfers. Ms. Lee has advised a broad range of multinational clients in industries including transportation, software, manufacturing, natural resources, and financial and legal services.
Prior to co-founding Barber & Company, Ms. Lee was a Senior Manager with KPMG in San Francisco and KPMG Washington National Tax in Washington, D.C., where she provided advanced technical expertise on complex tax issues. She also served as Executive Director with a foreign public company in Hong Kong SAR, where she advised on financial and organizational restructuring plans.
Ms. Lee earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and her Masters in Taxation at the University of Texas at Austin. She is licensed to practice in California and Texas, and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. |
